House Meetings & Parties

August 12, 2019

Every Monday, students are encouraged to wear their house color and house meetings will be held monthly during school.

Teachers reward members of the eight houses of Avalon Elementary with "house points". Each quarter the house with the most points is awarded with a party.  

Terrific Kids

August 12, 2019

A monthly character recognition program (traits such as caring, respect and perseverance), where a student from each class is chosen and honored at a special ceremony and given a certificate.

Reflex Math Challenge

August 12, 2019

Reflex is the most effective system for mastering basic facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. At Avalon Elementary we hold a party at the end of the year for our students that complete and pass their assigned levels.

K, 1 & 2 grade challenge: complete and pass addition/subtraction

3, 4, & 5 challenge; complete and pass multiplication/division

Sunshine State Book Party

August 12, 2019

The Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) Program is a statewide reading motivation program to encourage students to read independently for pleasure and to read books that are on, above, and below their reading level in order to improve their reading fluency.  

Avalon Elementary holds a party at the end of the year for all students that have read and passed AR test on a predetermined number of books from the SSYRA book list.

Sparks in the Dark

August 12, 2019

A reading challenge to spark the love of reading! Students will take AR tests on books read throughout the year.

Million Word Challenge

August 12, 2019

Students that read at least a million words (tracked through AR tests) will receive a special party at the end of the year.

National Elementary Honor Society

August 12, 2019

National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) recognizes students in both public and nonpublic elementary schools for their outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated personal responsibility. Through NEHS, students provide meaningful service to the school and community and develop essential leadership skills.

Avalon Elementary 4th and 5th graders are invited to join the National Elementary Honor Society that meet the following academic requirements:

  • 3.5 GPA

  • received at least one level 5 and level 4 (or higher) on their FSA exams

  • only S & O’s on conduct
